Planning a Tidy Up

We know you're raring to go, but there are certain things we'd like you to think about and have in place before you get on with your event.

> Check who owns the land you want to clean up - it might be a local council, a private owner, or maybe an organisation such as the National Trust. If possible, get the permission of the owner before you go any further.

> Find out where to leave any waste and ensure someone will collect it.

> Check you're insured. Public liability up to £5,000,000 will have to be provided.

> Appoint a team organiser and check you've got a first aider in case of accidents.

> Make sure you've got enough volunteers. If you need more, you could send a news release to the local media calling for volunteers and/or contact your local council to see if they have a volunteer bureau. You can also speak to your local CSV (Community Service Volunteers) to help you find volunteers.

> Inform volunteers that Children under 18 should be accompanied by an adult.

> Publicise the event. Set a date and meeting point.
