Environmental protection workers in Cheltenham are leading the
way by cleaning up a popular pedestrian and cycle pathway as part
of their contribution to Love Where You Live.
Cheltenham
Borough Council's environmental protection team swung into
action to carry out a litter pick to support the recent Love Where
You Live campaign day of action on 17 October 2011.
A team of six, including three community protection officers, an
environmental health officer and the community protection manager,
carried out a litter pick of the Honeybourne Line. This popular
cycle and footpath runs from Cheltenham Spa railway station through
towards the Prince of Wales Stadium in St.Paul's, and then towards
Wyman`s Brook and Pittville.
The area litter-picked included the side of the Prince of Wales
Stadium through to the St Paul`s Road junction. In total, six black
plastic bags of litter and a few bulky items were removed and
disposed of correctly.
It just goes to show that small actions can lead to big
change!
Sarah Wilce, a street scene enforcement officer with the
council, said: "Cheltenham Borough Council is striving to raise
awareness of the issues of littering in our streets and encourage
all people to dispose of their waste responsibly. Within
Cheltenham, we spend approximately £2 million each year on street
cleaning. Let's stop wasting money on waste and bin litter
correctly!"
